Leicestershire & Rutland Open for Disabled Persons
Venue: Oadby Golf Club Leicester
Date: Monday June 14 th
Tee Times: from 10.00am
Format: 18 hole stableford
Fee: £5.00 per person
The above event is specifically for disabled and special
needs golfers that hold a current golf handicap certificate.
It is held during the clubs Festival Week, June 13th - June
19th which includes competitions for Gentlemen, Seniors, Ladies
and Juniors, open to members and non-members alike.
The club have held a Festival week for many years and decided
in 1997 to have a disabled players day because of the great
lack of opportunity for them to compete together. The first
year consisted of a fourball of local amputee players and
over time has built to the degree that the Leicestershire
and Rutland Golf Union have granted it an Open status. Players
now come countrywide and include individual golfers, BALATA
and HANDIGOLF members and this year the Welsh International
Olympic Disabled team are participating, all playing to a
variety of golf handicaps. Whilst buggies are not available
for hire the club will give any assistance it can.
Oadby is a mature parkland/links 18 hole - 72 par course
- 6311 yards in length with large undulating greens. Meals
and refreshments are available in the clubhouse and there
is a well stocked pro shop. The clubhouse has all the disabled
facilities required.
Previous patrons of the week have included Lee Westwood and
Bernard Gallacher OBE and this year it is Peter Alliss.
So we have the course, we have the
event, we have the trophy and the prizes
WHAT WE DO NOT HAVE YET ARE YOU !
