CLEAN SWEEP FOR ENGLAND IN PEUGEOT CLASSIC
England players swept the board on their first ever assault
on the Peugeot Classic Tournament played at the Par 72 Golf
Club Pruneville over the weekend.
Not only did Cheshire’s Paul Waring win the individual
title with Suffolk’s Lawrence Dodd a shot behind but
England also carried off the Nations Cup by eight.
The young England team of Paul Waring (Bromborough), Lawrence
Dodd (Thetford) and James Smith (Sundridge Park) triumphed
against players from eight other countries, winning the Nations
Cup over the opening 36 holes with an aggregate score of 283.
The individual title turned into a head-to-head battle between
Waring and Dodd. After 54 holes Waring held a two-shot lead
following a three-under-par 69 in testing conditions, which
equalled the best round of the tournament.
In the final round both players maintained their form, with
Dodd challenging strongly with a 71. But Waring held off his
teammate’s charge with a 72 to win by a single shot.
