REVIEW FOR JUNIOR ORGANISERS’ HANDBOOK
It has been almost two years since the English Golf Union
and English Ladies’ Golf Association produced the Junior
Organisers’ Handbook. This invaluable and comprehensive
reference guide for golf clubs and individuals involved in
running a junior section will now be reviewed and updated
in order to enhance the publication.
The handbook was produced for junior organisers, professionals,
secretaries & managers and other volunteers to provide
guidance and examples of best practice on all aspects of junior
golf within clubs, challenging some existing practices whilst
trying to encourage positive future development.
Golfing legends Nick Faldo and Laura Davies pledged their
support for this key resource that has topics ranging from
recruitment through to long-term development - embracing issues
such as child protection, structures, membership fees, education
& careers, handicapping and rules & etiquette.
Richard Flint, EGU Golf Development Manager: “The Junior
Organisers’ Handbook is a vital resource in developing
junior structures within golf clubs and provides support for
the thousands of dedicated volunteers that help to develop
the game at grass roots”.
The EGU and ELGA will be consulting with counties, clubs
and individuals already using the handbook to ensure that
a there is a thorough review process. The governing bodies
are also looking for examples of best practice – anyone
involved with junior golf at their club is urged to provide
details via the feedback form on the EGU website at www.ecomallbiz.com/iwm17/feedbackform
or e-mail juniorgolf@englishgolfunion.org
The updated handbook will be complete early next year and
in addition to golf clubs directly receiving the publication,
it will also be available to download from the EGU website.
The Junior Organisers’ Handbook is one of many initiatives
developed by the EGU and ELGA as part of their commitment
to the England Junior Golf Partnership.
