HEATH BREAKS ALL THE RECORDS
Surrey golfer James Heath (Coombe Wood GC) set new records
at the weekend whilst winning the Lytham Trophy.
Heath, 21, a member of the EGU A Squad under the World Class
Performance Programme posted a four round total of 266, 18
under par. His scores of 67-68-66-65 smashed the previous
record for the Lytham Trophy by 10 strokes and were also 5
strokes lower than the best score posted in an Open Championship
at Royal Lytham, 271 by Tom Lehman in 1996.
Commenting on his victory James said, “My attitude
all week was great and my brother caddying was a big plus,
these were vital factors in my performance.”
Elite Squad member Ross Fisher (Wentworth GC) was second
on 274, 10 under par, a score that would normally have been
good enough to lift the trophy, with Gary Wolstenholme (Kilworth
Springs GC) in third place on 277.
James’ victory takes him to the top of the PING/EGU
Order of Merit ahead of Ross Fisher. Further details can be
seen on the EGU web site www.englishgolfunion.org
Performance Director Nigel Furniss commented, “This
truly was a World Class Performance by James, this win will
hopefully be the start of many, he is an extremely talented
golfer and has the ability to become a major contender in
the game.”
