CLUBS RESPOND TO QUESTIONNAIRE IN THEIR MASSES!
Following distribution of the biennial Golf Club Membership
Questionnaire 2004, the response from EGU/ELGA affiliated
golf clubs has been excellent, with almost 50% of the 1,910
completing the questionnaire within the first six weeks.
The aims of the governing bodies are to monitor membership
trends within golf clubs in England, to assess the impact
of current grass roots initiatives and to respond to changes
as golf evolves by strategically focusing resources.
Richard Flint, EGU Golf Development Manager comments: “The
positive response to the questionnaire highlights the importance
golf clubs put on monitoring membership trends and it is vital
that the sport continues to act upon the findings”.
As part of the process, any affiliated golf club returning
the questionnaire by the set deadline was entered into a prize
draw to win coaching funds for their junior section. The EGU
and ELGA are pleased to announce that the following golf clubs
have been successful:
£300 – Glen Gorse, Leicester
£200 – Kirkbymoorside, York
£200 – Sand Moor, Leeds
£100 – Bury, Lancashire
£100 – Sandwell Park, West Bromwich
£100 – Hatchford Brook, Birmingham
However, this should not deter golf clubs yet to return the
questionnaire, as results will not be published until later
on this year. A copy of the ‘national key findings and
trends’ booklet will be produced and detailed information
at regional and county level will also be available.
The biennial Golf Club Membership Questionnaire is just part
of the EGU’s and ELGA’s ongoing golf development
research strategy to aid long-term planning.
