EGU JOIN FORCES WITH DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S AWARD
The English Golf Union has joined forces with the Duke of
Edinburgh’s Award to become a National Access Organisation
within the physical recreation section, encouraging participation
and improvement in golf.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a personal development
programme of leisure time activities for young people between
the ages of 14 to 25 year olds. There are three levels of
award with different age requirements for each. Full details
can be found on the Award’s website www.theaward.org
Golf is recognised by the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
as being suitable for a section of the Award Programme –
physical recreation. Our relationship aims to encourage youngsters
already involved with The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
to ‘Get into Golf’ and likewise will support existing
junior golfers to get involved in the Award programme.
Young people already interested in golf, whether they play
or are just learning, can count the time they spend playing
golf towards their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award –
the average time commitment is about one hour per week for
a period of three months. The EGU as an Access Organisation
will issue (through affiliated golf clubs) credit notes/certificates
and sign record books for young people that have undertaken
the appropriate amount of golf.
Any golf clubs and/or junior organisers who wish to become
involved should telephone the EGU on 01526 354500 or visit
www.ecomallbiz.com/iwm17/dukeofedinburghaward/
The EGU is committed to the development of junior golf in
England through the England Junior Golf Partnership.
