SURREY PAIR CARRY ENGLAND HOPES IN SWITZERLAND
The Surrey duo of Adam Gee and Farren Keenan have been selected
to represent England in the Swiss Amateur Championship near
Geneva on 5th - 8th August.
This will be the first occasion that the English Golf Union
has accepted an invitation to send representatives to the
event being staged at Golf Club Domaine Imperial, situated
20 kilometres north of Geneva.
Gee, 23, from Leatherhead, made his full England debut in
the international against France at Royal St George’s,
Sandwich, in May. This honour followed a successful year at
home and abroad.
A former winner of the Grand Challenge Cup at Sandwich, Gee
emerged in 2003, finishing runner-up in the Midland Amateur
and the South East Qualifying and taking third place in the
Tillman Trophy.
These performances, among others, earned him selection to
the England A squad and prior to his England debut the Surrey
county player reached the match play stages of the Spanish
Amateur Championship and the semi-finals of the Portuguese
Amateur.
Keenan, 19, is a former Surrey boy champion, who was capped
at under 16 level in 2000 and became a boy international the
following year as well as being picked by GB&I for the
Jacques Leglise Trophy.
In 2002, he played in the World Boys Team Championships in
Japan, was made England boy captain, again represented GB&I
in the Jacques Leglise Trophy and played in the European team
in the Junior Ryder Cup at the K Club.
Twice a winner in Mauritius, he was a member of the England
Elite Squad last year and is now at college in Texas.
The Swiss Amateur is played over 72 holes stroke play with
a cut after 36 holes, the leading 40 players and ties going
through to the final two rounds. There is also a ladies championship,
both events having a Nations Cup over the opening two rounds.
