CHALLENGE FOR ELITE SQUAD
English Golf Union (EGU) Elite Squad players Lee Corfield
(Burnham & Berrow GC) and Richard Walker (Frodsham GC)
have been invited to compete in the JJB Sports North West
Challenge event to be played at Marriott Worsley Park Hotel
& Country Club on 22nd – 25th July.
Corfield, 21, a member of the England Elite Squad will compete
in the Challenge Tour event as part of the English Golf Union’s
policy through the World Class Performance Programme to give
leading amateur golfers the opportunity to gain experience
of competing in professional tour events.
Lee, winner of the West of England Stroke Play and runner
up in the Amateur Championship at St. Andrews earlier in the
year said “I am delighted to have received this invitation
through the English Golf Union and am looking forward to competing
in the European Challenge Tour event.”
Walker finished runner up recently in the St. Andrews Links
Trophy and was the playing captain of the winning England
Team in the European Nations Cup (Sherry Cup) at Sotogrande
early in the year. Corfield was also a member of the team.
Commenting on the invitation EGU Performance Director, Nigel
Furniss explained, “We are delighted that Lee and Richard
have been granted this opportunity to compete on the PGA Challenge
Tour. We are grateful to both the sponsors JJB sports and
the promoters ISM for their help in securing these invitations.
This is part of the EGU’s commitment to present leading
amateurs with experience at an early stage in the pursuit
of developing World Class golfers.”
