August.
Fisher, 15, is enjoying an outstanding year in which he has
won the English under 16 Championship for the McGregor Trophy,
the Lagonda Trophy and the Essex Championship and finished
runner-up in the McEvoy Trophy and the R&A Junior Open
at Barassie. He was also a member of the England teams that
won the European Boys Team Championships in Finland and the
Boys Home Internationals in Ireland.
He will be joined by Tom Oliver from Nottinghamshire and
Yorkshire’s Dale Smith (who both earned under 16 caps
against Italy last month) and James Watts from Hertfordshire.
Oliver, 16, is a former Notts under 14 and under 16 champion
who represented his county in the Boys County Finals in 2002.
He was reserve against Italy at Rotherham a year ago but played
against Scotland under 16s and against the England girls under
18 side. He also enjoyed a successful run in the recent English
Amateur Championship at Hollinwell, reaching the last 16.
Smith, 16, is the North of England under 16 champion and
a member of the EGU’s North East Group coaching scheme.
Watts, 16, is the reigning Hertfordshire Boys champion having
won the title by five strokes at West Herts in April. A member
of the Herts first team, he was also fifth in the King George
V Coronation Cup at Porters Park.
The international involves two foursomes matches followed
by four singles.
The team for Pannal is: Oliver Fisher (West Essex), Tom Oliver
(Notts), Dale Smith (Saltburn) and James Watts (East Herts).
Reserve: Kieran Lovelock (Hindhead).
A girls under 16 international, also against Spain will run
alongside the boys match, and both form a prelude to the North
of England Under 16 Championship at Pannal. This event is
competed for over three days with squads from Finland, Italy
and Spain in the field. There is also a girls championship
as well as under 14 awards for both boys and girls.
