CITY CENTRE SUCCESS FOR EGU & ELGA
The English Golf Union and English Ladies’ Golf Association
continually strive to develop and enhance their grass roots
initiatives and the 2004 ‘FREE’ golf coaching
campaign has been no exception.
To coincide with almost 200 golf clubs offering ‘FREE’
golf taster sessions, a mobile golf unit has been touring
England during the summer months. With the support of Swingtech
and local PGA Professionals, thousands of people have experienced
golf in Plymouth, Nuneaton, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester,
Derby and Peterborough.
‘FREE’ golf coaching taster sessions not only
allow people of any age, gender or background to experience
golf, it supports beginners in becoming regular participants
and also helps golf clubs to promote their facilities and
in many cases recruit new members.
Over 2,000 juniors and adults received a ‘FREE’
golf lesson in a city centre location, with hundreds more
receiving information on how to ‘Get into Golf’.
Although the city centre days have now finished, there are
still ‘FREE’ taster sessions taking place at golf
clubs throughout England. Details of participating venues
can be found at www.ecomallbiz.com/iwm17/tastersessions/
Complete statistics from the 2004 ‘FREE’ golf
coaching campaign will be published in November, including
total participation figures and the percentage of beginners
who continue to be involved in golf.
‘FREE’ golf coaching for beginners is an integral
part of the ‘Get into Golf’ structure developed
by the EGU and ELGA.
