LUPTON No. 1 FOLLOWING BRABAZON WIN
Jon Lupton (Middlesborough GC) is number 1 in the PING/EGU
Order of Merit following his win in the Brabazon Trophy at
the weekend.
The 24 year old Yorkshireman carded a closing 74 for 287,
one under par, to finish two strokes ahead of Scotland's Jack
Doherty, who returned 73, and five clear of Spanish champion
Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano also with 74.
Lupton, an England International moves up to the No 1 spot
ahead of Paul Bradshaw (Gainsborough GC) and fellow Elite
Squad member Richard Walker (Frodsham GC).
Jon, a member England's World Class Performance Programme
Elite Squad supported by the Sport England Lottery Fund was
delighted with his victory and commented "This win is
important to me as it strengthens my claim for Walker Cup
selection, it is also nice be on top of the PING/EGU Order
of Merit".
Performance Director, Nigel Furniss commented "I am
pleased for Jon who I expect to play a major role in England's
bid to win the European Men's Team Championship this year
and now has a great chance to claim a Walker Cup spot".
Lupton who played in the England Team that defeated Spain
recently at Lindrick will now look forward to the next event
in the World Class Performance Programme, the St. Andrews
Links Trophy 23rd - 25th May. He will play with Scotland's
Jack Doherty and South African Albert Kruger in the first
two rounds.
