ELITE SQUAD SHARPEN UP FOR A BUSY SEASON

England's World Class Performance Programme Elite Squad will complete their preparations for a busy season ahead which starts with the Sherry Cup in early April, by attending their fourth training session of the winter this week.

The 12-strong squad will be at The National Golf Centre, Woodhall Spa, for three days, 26-28 March, during which they will be put through their paces both on and off the golf course. As part of their integrated programme, players will continue to receive training support delivered by experts from the English Institute of Sport and the UK Sports Institute Athlete Career and Education (ACE) programme. The ACE programme will deliver a cutting-edge presentation and offer solutions on "Dealing with the Media".

This week's training session will focus on many aspects of the game that should give the Elite Squad their final preparations for the forthcoming campaign. Coaches, Keith Williams, David Ridley and Gary Smith will be offering technical support to help players' long and short game requirements as well as course management.

EGU National Coach, Keith Williams commented "This series of training sessions had been the most productive and pro-active delivered by the EGU to date. The influence of the World Class Performance Plan has had a marked effect! "

On the Sports Science and Sports Medicine side, following laboratory testing at Sheffield Hallam University, which included biomechanical assessment, diet and nutrition and in-depth physiological testing, Paul Darby will handle the fitness and physiotherapy aspects while Brian Hemmings, sports psychologist, will work with the players to enhance all aspects of mental training.

Equipment manufacturers Adidas, Callaway, Cleveland, Oakley, Ping, Taylor Made, and Titleist, will be in attendance to offer expert advice and equipment support to all the squad. As well as the manufacturers in attendance the Elite Squad also receive support and advice from Activator Sports, Golf Pride Grips and True Temper.

EGU Performance Director Nigel Furniss explained "This is an important session for the Elite Squad, detailed preparations will be made to ensure we meet our goals and targets for the season"

The Elite Squad of players comprises:

Graeme Clark (Doncaster), Lee Corfield (Burnham & Berrow), Richard Finch (Hull),
