WOLSTENHOLME ADDS SCOTTISH TITLE
England Elite Squad member Gary Wolstenholme (Kilworth Springs
GC) added the Scottish stroke play title at the weekend to
the Amateur Championship title he won last week at Royal Troon.
Gary carded a four round total of 273 (69, 67, 68 & 69),
11 under par on the Kintyre course at Turnberry to beat fellow
Elite squad member Richard Walker (Frodsham GC) by four strokes.
Gary’s win increased his lead at the top of the PING/EGU
Order of Merit over Jon Lupton (Middlesborough GC). Walker’s
7 under par total of 277 (74, 67, 69 & 67) lifted him
into 3rd place in the PING/EGU Order of Merit with Paul Bradshaw
(Gainsborough GC) moving up to 4th above Richard Finch (Hull
GC).
Wolstenholme, a member England’s World Class Performance
Programme Elite Squad supported by the Sport England Lottery
Fund explained ”I am playing well at the moment which
is reflected in my achievements. I am looking forward to the
rest of the season and producing more of my recent form.”
Wolstenholme has a busy schedule coming up with International
duty for England in the European Men’s Team Championship
in Holland in early July, followed by the Scottish Open at
Loch Lomond and then the Open Championship at Royal St. Georges.
EGU Performance Director Nigel Furniss commented “Another
great performance by Gary who must be rated as one of the
best amateur golfers in the world right now.”
