ENGLAND NAME THREE NEW CAPS TO FACE ITALY

England will field three new caps for the annual under-16 international with Italy that precedes the Under-16 McGregor Trophy at Rotherham Golf Club, Yorkshire, on 1 July.

Jake Amos (Birstall), Oliver Fisher (West Essex) and Tony Mitchell (Redbourn) are the newcomers and will be joined by Ben Parker (Gut Waldhof) to complete the team.

Amos, 16, was included in the 2003 Boys School of Excellence, is a member of the Leicestershire boys team and has moved up to the county first team this year. He also won the under-16 event in the recent Faldo Series at Woburn.

Fisher, 14, the promising youngster from Essex, earns his first call having won the Laddie Lucas Spoon at Prince's for two years. He is a member of the Essex under-18 squad and has recently been added to the England School of Excellence. Also, he was the only under -16 to qualify for this year's McEvoy Trophy.

Mitchell, 15, from Hertfordshire, also a member of the School of Excellence, enjoyed a run of success last year, finishing 3rd in the England Under-14 Championship for the Reid Trophy, 7th in the North of England Boys, and 12th in the Under-16 Championship (McGregor Trophy).

Parker, is the 15-year-old son of an English professional based in Germany. Another member of the School of Excellence, he made his international debut in the under-16 international against Scotland last year and also featured in the annual match against the England under-18 girls team. He also enjoyed good runs in the British Boys Championship and the England Under-18 Championship.

This will be the 8th playing of the match with the Italians, which involves two foursomes and four singles matches. England has an unbeaten record in the event, having won the last six encounters after the inaugural meeting at Radcliffe-on-Trent in 1996 finished 3-3.

Team: Jake Amos (Birstall), Oliver Fisher (West Essex), Tony Mitchell (Redbourn), and Ben Parker (Gut Waldhof). Reserve: Tom Oliver (Notts)
