EGU AIMS TO COACH RECORD NUMBER OF JUNIORS
On April 1st 2003 the English Golf Union in association with
the Marsh Sports Group launched Year 5 of the increasingly
popular Junior Club Coaching Programme.
Following on from the success of the Year 4 programme in
which 556 clubs applied – the highest to date, it is
expected that Year 5 will prove even more successful, with
over 200 clubs applying in the first two weeks.
The sponsorship of this initiative through the Marsh Sports
Group gives a welcome boost to the England Junior Golf Partnership’s
plans for the development of junior golf in England. By delivering
this programme the EGU are able to continue encouraging golf
clubs to coach and develop their junior members and help improve
junior structures throughout England.
The Year 5 programme is running on the same guidelines as
last year, offering £100.00 to clubs, which the clubs
are asked to match to make a total fund of £200.00.
Clubs are then able to offer 10 coaching sessions to their
juniors at the agreed rate of £20.00 per hour. The EGU
has mailed all affiliated golf clubs offering them the chance
to apply and consequently receive grant aid to assist with
the coaching of the juniors within their club.
Feedback from previous years has shown that grant aid offered
by the EGU and the Marsh Sports Group has greatly benefited
all involved - since the programme’s inception in 1999
over 36,000 boys and girls have been coached.
