BROMBOROUGH TO HOST 2005 ENGLISH AMATEUR
Bromborough Golf Club, on the Wirral, has generously agreed
to stage the English Amateur Championship, the Blue Riband
event of the English men’s season, in 2005.
The Championship will be held from 25-30 July and will mark
its second visit to Cheshire in nine years. Bromborough’s
neighbour, Royal Liverpool played host in 1997 when Aran Wainwright
beat Philip Rowe 2 and 1 in the 36-hole final.
Just last June Bromborough helped host the English Men’s
Seniors Championship along with neighbouring Heswall when
Douglas Arnold from Sussex emerged victorious by a shot.
Bromborough’s agreement to stage the English Amateur
Championship means that the north west of England will enjoy
a feast of top men’s amateur golf in 2005.
The English Seniors Championship is being played at Prestbury
and Lymm in early June followed by the European Men’s
Amateur Team Championships at Hillside at the end of the month.
Then, three weeks after the English Amateur at Bromborough,
the Logan Trophy, the Men’s Mid Amateur Championship,
is destined for another Cheshire club, Delamere Forest.
