SCOTLAND TO PLAY IN BENSON AND HEDGES

Zane Scotland, a member of the England Elite Squad will play in the Benson and Hedges International Open at the De Vere Belfry 8th – 11th May.

Scotland, 20, who played in the Benson and Hedges International Open in 2001 is enjoying life on tour at the moment. He recently finished tied 50th in the Portuguese Open and will this week compete in the Italian Open.

On receiving the invitation Zane said “I am looking forward to competing in the Benson and Hedges International Open, it is a quality tournament and always has a high class field. It will be a great experience and lots of fun”.

Zane, the youngest player to compete in the Open championship at Carnoustie in 1999, is no stranger to playing on the PGA European Tour. He played in the Cannon European Masters in 1999, the Compaq Grand Prix in 2000, The Benson and Hedges and Murphy’s Irish Open in 2001 and the Spanish Open, Portuguese Open and Great North Open in 2002.

Scotland, who has played 24 matches for England at senior level, will be looking to produce the kind of form that recently won him the Selborne Salver, saw him help England to victory in the Sherry Cup and finish third in the individual scores.

Scotland received the invitation from Benson & Hedges following their agreement to generously support England’s World Class Performance Programme.

Commenting on the invitation EGU Performance Director said “We are delighted that Zane has been granted this opportunity to compete on the PGA European Tour. This is part of the EGU’s commitment to present leading amateurs with experience at an early stage in the pursuit of developing into World Class golfers”
