GRAND PRIX OF CHINA
Free practice / JORGE LORENZO TAKES THIRD ON A FIRST
DAY HIT BY RAIN
The rain, which fell throughout the day, made life difficult
on the first day of qualifying at the 2006 Chinese Grand Prix.
FORTUNA APRILIA riders Jorge Lorenzo and Hector Barbera adapted
well to the conditions and finished the day in third and eleventh
places respectively. After the fall which saw him crash out
at the first corner in Turkey, Mallorcan rider Lorenzo started
the day more determined than ever and was first in the morning
session. Team-mate Hector Barbera, who suffered some problems
with his Aprilia, ended the day a little further back having
completed 19 laps of the Chinese circuit. Forecats suggest
that conditions will not improve tomorrow.
JORGE LORENZO (2’17”161, 3rd):
”I believe we did a good job today - despite the conditions,
I am pleased with how things went. We lapped with the same
tyre to try and find the best set-up for the bike. We still
have another day to work and I think we can still improve.
Overall I’m happy, we’ll keep going tomorrow and
try to fight for pole.”
HECTOR BARBERA (2’19”919, 11th):
“In the morning session we did a good job and I felt
comfortable on the bike. But in the afternoon I had a small
problem which impeded my progress. However, we will continue
working tomorrow and I hope to get a good grid position.”
