GRAND PRIX OF CATALUNYA

Second qualifying practice / JORGE LORENZO CLOSE TO POLE POSITION WITH ALEX DEBON JUST BEHIND HIM ON AN EXCELLENT DAY FOR FORTUNA APRILIA

It proved to be an excellent second day for Fortuna Aprilia at the Grand Prix of Catalunya, where both riders qualified on the front row of the grid. Jorge Lorenzo held pole position until the final moments of the qualifying session, when he was relegated to second place by series leader Andrea Dovizioso. Alex Debón, riding in place of the injured Héctor Barberá, was unable to hang on to the provisional pole he set yesterday but he also improved his time and ended up third. The Fortuna Aprilia pair a both expecting a tough group race tomorrow, when tyre choice will be critical to their podium aspirations.

JORGE LORENZO, 2nd (1’46.892 at 0’100)

“We’ve improved a little bit from the first day but I’m still short of my times in the IRTA test. I ran into traffic on both of my fast laps and lost the chance to fight for pole position. It will be even harder tomorrow so I’ll be going out to giver it everything. Racing in front of the home fans is an extra motivation so I hope to put that to good use and go for another victory. I’d like to do so by putting on a good show and giving the best fans in the world something to shout about. I’m happy with how things went for my team-mate and I hope to see him in the lead group with me.”

ALEX DEBON, 3th (1’47.040 a 0’248)

“I’m really happy because my goal was to be on the front row and I achieved that. The team have done a great job and I want to thank them for making it easy for me. It will be a group race tomorrow and it will be difficult to escape so if Jorge needs my help and I can give it to him then I won’t hold back. Hopefully I can get a good start, stay in the lead group and fight for the podium.”
