ANOTHER DOMINANT VICTORY FOR JORGE LORENZO; EXCELLENT FIFTH
PLACE FOR HECTOR BARBERA
Sunday proved another great day for Jorge Lorenzo who claimed
his fifth victory of the season in fine style and reduced
Andrea Dovizioso’s championship lead from 16 points
to just one. Only late falls from Hiroshi Aoyama and Marco
Simoncelli prevented Lorenzo from taking the outright championship
lead in what was a textbook weekend for the FORTUNA APRILIA
rider. Hector Barbera, who returned to action after a two-race
absence, turned in a hugely creditable performance as he finished
in fifth. Lorenzo made a good start but saw himself overtaken
by Dovizioso, although the Italian only remained at the front
for a lap and a half before the Spaniard took over again.
Dovizioso maintained Lorenzo’s pace for around a dozen
laps, but when Lorenzo stepped it up a notch the Italian struggled
to match him and ended up falling and losing several places.
It meant Lorenzo coasted home for a comfortable victory, whilst
team-mate Barbera got stronger as the race went on to claim
a positive result on his return after injury.
JORGE LORENZO, 1st
“I am very happy, everything worked to perfection.
Despite not being as quick as we wanted, when I started to
push hard Dovizioso fell. I feel for him because you never
want to see a rival fall, although it did allow me to make
up a lot of championship points. We are just a point behind
him now, but it is not the time to be thinking about that.
We have to keep taking it race by race and our next objective
is the race in Germany. I want to thank all the team for the
excellent work they have done as we have again shown we capable
of achieving great things.”
HECTOR BARBERA, 5th
“The wrist hurt me a lot with the vibrations of the
bike and the sharp braking, but I felt more comfortable than
yesterday and was able to finish teh race. I think finishing
fifth in the first race on my return from injury is very satisfying
and it will give me confidence for the next races. I want
to thank Dr Mir for the excellent treatment he has given me
which helped me get through the weekend. I hope I am 100 percent
fit by Germany and can challenge for the podium.”
