BRITISH GRAND PRIX
Second qualifying practice / SIXTH POLE OF THE SEASON
AND A NEW LAP RECORD FOR JORGE LORENZO
Jorge Lorenzo has taken his sixth pole of the season at Donington
Park, host of the ninth round of the campaign tomorrow. The
FORTUNA APRILIA rider was the only man inside 1’32 (1’31.689),
leaving his only contender Andrea Dovizioso almost seven tenths
behind. Lorenzo lapped in 1’32 for the whole session
before his late strike for pole whilst Dovizioso was unable
to get any closer as he moved up from fifth place. Lorenzo
also knocked two tenths off the pole record held by fellow
Spaniard Dani Pedrosa. Hector Barbera, missing from the last
two rounds because of a broken wrist, was unable to improve
his time from yesterday and will start from the second row.
JORGE LORENZO: Pole position 1’31.659
“I am quite satisfied with my sixth pole of the season
but for me the most important thing was the good pace we had
throughout the session. It’s always nice to take the
record off another riderf but right now our only objective
is the race tomorrow. I feel comfortable with the bike although
we do still have plenty of room for improvement. Tomorrow
I just hope to get a good start and lap consistently throughout
the race. The main thing is to have fun on the bike.”
HECTOR BARBERA: 1’33.498 (+1.839)
“My wrist doesn’t hurt and I owe that to Doctor
Mir and my physiotherapist Jordi Reig, but we’ll see
how it reacts tomorrow in the race. I’m not really comfortable
with the front end of the bike so I hope we can improve that
tomorrow. It will be a tough race but my aim is to get a good
start and fight with the front group.”
