GRAND PRIX OF TURKEY

Second qualifying practice / THIRD CONSECUTIVE POLE FOR LORENZO

Jorge Lorenzo will start from pole for the third time this season after rain dominated the second day of qualifying at the Turkish GP preventing any rider from improving his time from Friday. The Mallorcan Team Fortuna Aprilia rider also shone in the wet conditions on Saturday, posting the fourth best time and finding a good rhythm. Hector Barbera will start at the front of the second row having claimed fifth place on Friday. The Valencian was eighth fastest in the rain, but still some way behind Australian Anthony West who showed most aptitude in the rain. The Fortuna Aprilia Team will be confident of extending their excellent form this season that has seen them claim all three pole positions and both race victories so far.

JORGE LORENZO, Pole Position,

“I am surprised by the fourth place I got in the wet and I hope it will give me confidence if it does rain tomorrow. I was unsure when I started the session because it’s been a while since I rode in the wet, but I ended it confident I could challenge for the podium. However, I still hope we have dry conditions as I’m starting from pole for the third time and would love to claim a third victory. I believe we can be competitive whatever the weather, but it’s obvious it will be more difficult in the wet as people are willing to risk more which makes it difficult.”

HECTOR BARBERA (8th fastest on Saturday) - 5th on the grid

“I had one of the best times in the wet and believe we can be competitive if it is a wet race. Apart from West, the top ten were very close. This is a difficult circuit in the dry and becomes even more so in the wet. We have settled on our set-up and tomorrow we will see what kind of race we have to deal with. I would prefer it not to rain as it becomes a lottery in the water and the slightest error can see you crash out.”
