First qualifying practice / POLE POSITION FOR LORENZO IN
TURKEY, BARBERA IN FIFTH
Jorge Lorenzo took provisional pole for the 250 GP at the
Istanbul Park circuit, scene of the Turkish Grand Prix this
weekend in the third round of the MotoGP World Championship.
By taking pole, Lorenzo continued Fortuna Aprilia’s
dominance of the class this season with the team having gone
fastest in every qualifying session so far this term –
Lorenzo three times and Hector Barbera twice. On this occasion,
the Mallorcan – poleman in Jerez and Qatar – was
fastest although the dirty track prevented all the riders
from lapping as quickly as they had hoped. Barbera had to
settle for fifth place after experiencing problems with his
first-choice bike and finished the session on his second mount.
JORGE LORENZO Provisional pole 1’57.841, 19
laps
“I am happy to have posted the fastest time although
we all know that the important thing is to maintain it in
the second session and, of course, the race. I had some problems
with the front end of the bike which stopped me from putting
the bike into some corners as I wanted, but the team are analysing
that now and I hope to have a solution for tomorrow and Sunday’s
race.”
HECTOR BARBERA 5th 1’59.236, 15 laps
“It was a real shame because I lost a lot of time and
was not able to get a good position on the grid. I had mechanical
problems with my first bike and, after trying to set-up the
second bike in the same way, we could not take advantage of
the session as we wanted. Luckily we still have time to rectify
things, move up the grid and find the set-up to make us competitive
in the race.”
