FORTUNA HONDA LOOKING FOR VICTORY IN QATAR

Jorge Lorenzo claimed his fourth pole of the season after a thrilling battle with Alex de Angelis in the final 250 qualifying session. Jorge was understandably delighted with his performance, while team-mate Hector Barbera was up with the top riders, eventually qualifying on the third row. The day proved especially hard due to the death of a family member of one of the team.

Jorge Lorenzo
Free session: 2’03.835, 5th, + 0.793
Qualifying: POLE POSITION, 2’02.154

“In the morning I’m not sure why I was uncomfortable but I was going slow, but in the afternoon I improved lap by lap. If we had be given a bit more time I could have gone even faster than my pole mark, but I have to be satisfied. If the bike works this well in the race, and my riding is as good, I think we can have a good race tomorrow. But I am not obsessing about it: I want to finish first, then think about getting on the podium, then think about winning.”

Héctor Barbera
Free session: 2’03.587, 4th, + 0.545
Qualifying: 2’04.282, 9th, + 2.128 de la pole

“Things did not go well. I was fastest this morning, but I had a few problems when I put on the qualifying tyre and also got stuck in traffic. The most important thing is to be enjoying yourself and with hard work and effort we’ll get there. Tomorrow will go better.”

Dani Amatriain, Team Manager Fortuna Honda 250cc

“Today was difficult as yesterday the head mechanic, Jorge Guido, had to go back to Italy as his father died. It was a hard day and we were all sad. On the other hand Jorge took his fourth pole and the most important thing is not to worry now as the wins will come. If it happens here, all the better given the circumstances. Hector is progressing well, he has had some bad luck during the season that has hit his development, but I believe in him and he will be amongst the fastest riders before long.”
