BARBERA GOES IT ALONE
The one-race ban imposed on JORGE LORENZO following the GP
of Japan means that HECTOR BARBERA has the sole responsibility
of representing the FORTUNA HONDA at this weekend’s
Malaysian GP at the Sepang circuit. As is always the case
at this circuit, the first day was dominated by high temperatures
and humidity. However, if the morning session took place in
normal conditions for this part of the world, it was rain
that influenced the results of the afternoon session. Track
conditions, with the circuit still damp despite the humid
conditions helping to dry it out, prevented some riders from
improving their times from the morning. Barbera himself looked
less than confident in the tricky conditions and didn’t
take any unnecessary risks, concentrating more on the set-up
of his bike. Lorenzo did not visit the track today and instead
chose to continue with an intensive physical training programme
at his hotel. However, he is expected at the track tomorrow
to support team-mate Barbera.
HECTOR BARBERA (80):
Free session: 7th-2.10.239 + 1.545
Qualifying session: 13th-2.11.142 + 2.947
“It was difficult to go quick in these conditions as
the track wasn’t completely dry. I can’t be happy
with my performance as the bike was working well and the whole
team has done a great job. I hope the track will be completely
dry tomorrow so I can improve, and I want to offer my support
to Jorge, we can’t wait for him to return.”
DANI AMATRIAIN, team manager FORTUNA HONDA:
“It was a difficult day, one of the most difficult
days of the year. The whole team found it hard without Jorge
here but we will try to get through the weekend as best we
can. As regards Hector, he was not very comfortable on the
bike today because of the track which was neither dry nor
damp.”
