LORENZO AND BARBERA READY TO SHINE IN AUSTRALIA
Fortuna Honda 250cc riders Jorge Lorenzo and Héctor
Barberá will start from the 1st and 2nd rows in the
Australian Grand Prix which takes place in the early hours
of the morning in Europe. Lorenzo, who emerged unscathed from
a high-speed crash at the end of the straight, was only 87-thousandths
off pole position, whilst Barberá was unable to improve
on his time from Friday, although he is finally ready to show
that he can tough it out with the top riders in the category.
JORGE LORENZO
2nd free: 3rd, 1’33.521, +0.442 from Sebas Porto
2nd qualifying: 2nd, front row, 1’32.843, +0.087 off
Stoner’s pole
“It was a hefty crash, but I was lucky, thank God.
I was just short of pole, but what matters is the race. Yesterday
I was talking about a margin of a second or a second and a
half, and I’ve taken a second out of that. There’s
still a bit to do, I want to use the warm up to fine-tune
my set-up and be as prepared as possible for the race.”
HECTOR BARBERA
2nd free: 5th, 1’33.899, +0.800 from Sebas Porto
2nd qualifying: 5th, 2nd row, 1’33.760, +0.868 from
Stoner’s pole
“I’m happy, although I couldn’t improve
yesterday’s time. We have worked towards the race though,
trying to avoid any unforeseeable problems. I was focused
on tomorrow’s race today, which should see some progress
for me. I’ve got a good set-up, maybe with a few problems
in the rear-end. It’s the closest I’ve been all
year. I set my lap alone today, a tenth slower than yesterday,
but with no tow.”
DANI AMATRIAIN Fortuna Honda 250cc Team Director
“Jorge’s crash at the end is just a sideline
now, but it was a massive shock when it happened, because
it’s a key point on the track because of the high-speed
of it. We got over this small issue, with the rider safe and
sound, and we hope that the race can go well for him tomorrow.
As for Héctor I have to say I’m really happy
with his work. The position is good, and perhaps he could
have gone even quicker, but I prefer him to keep his feet
on the ground and tomorrow assure himself of a good result
riding amongst the front group for as long as possible.”
