LORENZO CONFIRMS HIS WEEKEND’S PROGRESS BARBERA UNABLE
TO MAKE FINAL PUSH WITH TYRE PROBLEMS
Jorge
Lorenzo, fifth, and Hector Barbera, seventh, today showed
the excellent work they have done this weekend with a positive
race. Lorenzo, who led for nearly three laps, got the crowd
buzzing with some typically spirited riding borrowed from
his 125 days, and which proved his adaptation to the new class.
Barbera meanwhile got a decent start to move up to fifth,
but was then hit by rear tyre troubles which meant he lost
contact with the lead group.
Jorge Lorenzo (48)
Race: 5th - Championship: 8th, 34 points, 39 behind leader
“I need to improve still, and there is a lot to learn.
I need to practice my starts and conserve the tyres better.
I’m happy though because I showed I can lead races.
Now I have to learn how to hold on to the lead. It seemed
like the bike would stop at one point, and it threw me a little.
Physically I’m happy with how I finished the race. Now
I can’t wait for Mugello, and of course, that it doesn’t
rain either.”
Hector Barbera (80)
Race: 7th Championship: 8th, 34 points, 39 behind leader
“I’m happy because this is only our second dry
race so far this year. If I hadn’t have finished with
such a worn rear tyre I think I could have been up with the
leaders. But it will come. It’s just a matter of time
because things are going well. I’m adapting well to
the class, I know more or less what’s needed from the
bike, and I’m getting it out slowly. Obviously I want
to finish higher, and I hope I can do so in Mugello.”
Dani Amatriain, Team Director FORTUNA HONDA
I think we should be pleased with the way the race went for
our team today. Jorge did a great job, and I’m sorry
that Hector couldn’t battle more because of a defective
tyre. If the two previous races had been in the dry, we probably
would have been better placed than they are, because all they
are missing is time on the bike, like in today’s race.
It’s obvious we are on the right track to getting what
we want.
