Gauloises TT Assen
PODIUM FOR LORENZO DESPITE HIS COLLARBONE PAIN
JORGE LORENZO claimed his second podium of the season, in
the 250 class and at the Assen circuit, despite the intense
pain he was suffering from the collarbone injury he sustained
at Montmelo that required surgery. The FORTUNA HONDA rider
gave a great demonstration of determination. He started from
pole and, after a very good start, probably the best he has
made in the 250 class, he managed to hold on to first place
until the final lap when a mistake at the chicane allowed
the two riders behind him, Porto and Pedrosa, to sneak past
him. In the end, Lorenzo had to settle for third, but was
happy with the result especially given his injury problems.
HECTOR BARBERA, who started from the second row, had problems
getting away. However, he climbed back up to fourth spot,
but could not maintain his rhythm because of an arm injury
and eventually crossed the line in ninth place. The FORTUNA
HONDA team now head directly to Brno for a two-day test ahead
of the Czech Grand Prix which takes place at the end of August.
Jorge Lorenzo (48):
RACE: 3rd + 1.232
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP: 6th, 70 points.
You have to learn from lessons in life. Obviously I’m
upset because I made a mistake on the last lap. I did not
close the door on the chicane and Porto passed me when I was
not expecting it. But I am happy because I took pole, made
a good start and led the race until the last lap. You always
have to take the positives and even more so in this case because
of the speed from which I have recovered from teh collarbone
injury.
Héctor Barberá (80):
RACE: 9th + 14.406
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP: 9th, 51 points.
I got away badly, but I was climbing up from tenth place.
I felt comfortable, and first I battled with Aoyama, then
Dovizioso and later with Pedrosa, De Puniet and Dovizioso
again. The three riders at the front were lapping very fast
and I had problems in staying with them because my arms hurt
and towards the end of the race I had no power in them. This
is the first race I was able to ride consistently in, but
that problem with my arms stopped me from doing even better.
Afetr this race I realise the lead riders are not far away
from me. I still have a lot to improve, but we are heading
in the right direction.
He salido mal, pero he ido remontando hasta la décima
posición. Después me he ido encontrando a gusto,
You have to congratulate Jorge for his podium and Hector
for the effort he put in, but above all I want to praise the
team as everybody gave everything for the greater good. This
was always going to be a season of adaptation for our riders,
but we are already seeing that they are capable, and will
be capable in the future of getting results that will be more
than satisfactory for the Fortuna Honda team.
