Italian GP 250cc
First day
Fortuna Honda 250cc riders Héctor Barberá and
Jorge Lorenzo got to work on the first day of the Italian
Grand Prix in intense heat at Mugello. Ambient temperatures
of 25ºC in the morning and 36ºC on the track rose
to 30ºC and 50ºC respectively afternoon. Héctor
Baberá was satisfied with his day but Jorge Lorenzo
was left to lament an engine problem which came at the worst
possible time.
Jorge Lorenzo.
5th in first qualifying practice: 1'54.630, 0.783 off provisional
pole.
"I was second fastest in the morning free practice but
at the start of qualifying in the afternoon my first bike,
the one I felt most comfortable with, broke down. My confidence
in the front end of my number two bike wasn’t as good
so I just did what I could. I’m not far off though –
just a tenth away from the front row ".
Héctor Barberá.
7th in first qualifying practice: 1'54.800, 0.953 off provisional
pole.
"I’m very satisfied. The whole team is highly
motivated and feeling confident. Let’s see if this is
my chance to fight for a top position – that is what
we are all working so hard for. I set a good pace today, I’ve
got a good set-up and if it rains I won’t be too bothered.
I’m also only nine tenths off pole and I set my best
time on race tyres so I know I can improve and that is an
extra motivation".
