XAUS TENTH FOR THE THIRD TIME THIS YEAR
Ruben Xaus and David Checa both completed their objective
of finishing the GP of Catalunya. Xaus produced one of his
best rides of the season and, although he has twice before
finished in the top ten, looked very comfortable at Montmelo.
Checa, for his part, finished six places higher up than he
did at Mugello last weekend when he once again stood in for
the injured Toni Elias. His 13th place ensured he took his
first three points in the MotoGP category. The FORTUNA YAMAHA
team will stay on in Barcelona tomorrow to test ahead of the
Dutch GP.
Ruben Xaus (11):
Race: 10th + 46.692.
Championship: 13th, 24 points.
“I am very happy with the race today, because we have
got more points in the championship which is what it is all
about. We needed a result like this to continue our progress.
Initially, the season was proving more difficult than some
had expected, but I believe the team and myself are doing
agood job which is letting us stay around the top ten now.
The circuits coming up are ones that I like a lot, and I hope
to do well in the next few races. I want to show the real
effort that my team and also Fortuna and Yamaha have been
putting in.”
David Checa (94):
Race: 13th + 1.03.895
Championship: 22nd, 3 points
“I could not feel more satisfied with the result I
have got. If you think that I only had one day of testing
on the M-1 before the race, I don’t think you could
ask for more. I woud like to thank the Fortuna Yamaha team
for the chance they have given me in Toni’s absence.
It meant I got the chance to make my debut in MotoGP in one
of the best teams.”
Hervé Poncharal, FORTUNA YAMAHA Team Manager:
“Both Ruben and David performed very well. Both finished
in the top 13 which is not easy as the MotoGp class is very
close this year. For that I congratulate both of them. I want
to personally thank David for his performance, getting on
the M-1 with virtually now laps under his belt is very hard.
Ruben is continuing to progress and I hope that continues
– I am very satisfied with his ride. I want to wish
Toni a speedy recovery and say that we are all thinking of
him.”
