DIFFERING FORTUNES FOR LORENZO AND BARBERA
The German Grand Prix brought diverging fortunes for the
two FORTUNA HONDA riders. Whilst Hector Barbera produced one
of his best performances of the season, Jorge Lorenzo finished
the weekend empty-handed after crashing out. Barbera came
home in eighth and moved up a place in the championship as
a result. Lorenzo was leading the race after a terrific start
and did battle with Aoyama, De Angelis and then Pedrosa. However,
on trying to get back past Pedrosa on the fourth lap the two
riders came together and Lorenzo ended up on the floor and
lost two places in the championship as a result.
HECTOR BARBERA (80):
RACE: 8th + 22.193
CHAMPIONSHIP: 9th, 59 points
“In the warm-up we tried a number of new settings that
we didn’t use in the race in the end. I got away well
today and was able to battle with De Puniet. The main problem
came when my tyres began to show signs of fatigue on about
the tenth lap. From then on it deteriorated a lot and I could
not stop Stoner getting past me right at the end.”
JORGE LORENZO (48):
RACE: DNF
CHAMPIONSHIP: 8th, 78 points
“I tried to get past Pedrosa very quickly because I
was very quick out of the corners today, but he did everything
to try and stop me. In the end he hit me, on another day I
could have hit him. It’s one of those things. There’s
no need to make a big deal out of it, luck evens itself out
and perhaps we didn’t have any today. Everything was
going perfectly until then, but just as happened at Montmelo…
we had a bit of bad fortune.”
DANI AMATRIAIN, FORTUNA HONDA Team Manager:
“I am surprised by the comments of Dani Pedrosa who
claimed he did not see Jorge. I think maybe he should change
his helmet because obviously the one he has at the moment
doesn’t let him see very much. From what I saw, and
have subsequently seen on television, I am very clear on who
was the aggressor and who wasn’t. It’s Jorge’s
first season in 250 and I think he is doing well. The FORTUNA
HONDA team is working hard and sooner or later the victories
will come.”
