LORENZO MAINTAINS FRONT ROW RECORD
With the top nine riders within one second and no fewer than
29 laps to contest, the German Grand Prix looks set to be
particularly long and hard. If the rainy weather forecasts
are proved correct, the Sachsenring round is sure to provide
high excitement on a day when the 250cc race will start in
the slot usually reserved for the MotoGP class (14.00h). FORTUNA
HONDA rider Jorge Lorenzo will once again start from the front
row after setting the third fastest time of the day. The Mallorcan
could have improved this position after setting an excellent
race pace, only to be held up by excessive traffic on the
track that impeded his challenge for pole position. Héctor
Barberá has made improvements in every session this
weekend and ended today with the ninth fastest time. For tomorrow
the Spanish teenager is confident of taking advantage of the
extra physical training he has done in recent weeks, which
could prove to be a major factor if the race turns out to
be as demanding as is expected.
JORGE LORENZO (48):
Free Practice-2: 5th, 1.26.115 a 0.818 (25/27 laps)
Qualifying Practice.-2: 3rd, 1.24.905 + 0.287
“I am happy because compared with this morning I got
a lot more confidence with the front end in the afternoon
and that allowed me to go much faster. It will almost be an
endurance race, where physical condition could prove to be
a major advantage when it comes to winning the race. Hopefully
that plays in our favour.”
HECTOR BARBERA (80):
Free Practice -2: 4th, 1.25.995 + 0.698 (22/32 laps)
Qualifying Practice.-2: 9th, 1.25.643 +1.025
“We’ve improved my lap time from yesterday by
almost a second although that is still not enough. I’m
only five tenths off fifth place, which is highly motivating.
Little by little we are finding our way and getting some consistency
together. It will be a difficult race. I’m really keen
to ride at the front again and demonstrating my ability. We’re
all going to find it difficult after 29 laps but I have worked
hard on my physical condition recently which has allowed me
to enjoy the races much more.”
