LORENZO TAKES PROVISIONAL POLE, BARBERA BACK ON FORM
Mallorcan rider Jorge Lorenzo posted the best time at the
first qualifying session at the British Grand Prix at Donington
Park. Despite the poor weather conditions, the Fortuna Honda
rider lapped consistently throughout the day making sure he
secured provisional pole. The Fortuna rider joked, though,
that he did not want anymore poles because what he really
wanted was to win. There was good news for Hector Barbera
as well who appears to have now overcome the physical problems
that have dogged him in recent weeks. The rider from Dos Aguas
worked tirelessly on his bike all day to ensure he found a
suitable set-up for Sunday’s race.

"Things went very well, I was first in both sessions.
This circuit, above all the corners, gave me problems in the
125 class, but on this Honda it was much better. I must find
rhythm in the race no and not just to get pole. My aim is
obviously to win, but for that we have to find perfection
with the bike and I still have a lot to learn. I have taken
poles, but I don’t want poles, I want to win. We are
hoping it won’t rain, but if you ride with fear in the
wet you won’t go fast. The recent time without races
has allowed me to improve my fitness in the gym, it was good
but I wanted to improve. I also had time to relax to be on
top form.”
HECTOR BARBERA
10th, 1'33.855, a 1.246 Seconds
“The truth is that I had some problems with the grip
of the front wheel. It was hampering my steering and if you
lose some confidence it is hard to get it back. We are trying
a lot of things, working on the tyres and trying to improve.
I believe we are taking steps forward and are getting close
to where we want to be all the time. The important thing is
that it doesn’t rain tomorrow so we can prepare fully
for Sunday. We have spent a lot of time in the gym recently
and I feel good. I know it’s only the first day, but
the doctors have given me the all-clear and I am very happy.”
