LEARN FROM THE NEGATIVES AFTER A DAY TO FORGET
It was a bad day for the FORTUNA HONDA riders in the 250cc
class at the Grand Prix of Portugal on Sunday. The fluctuating
weather conditions made the race difficult for all riders,
and seriously affected the performance of Jorge Lorenzo and
Hector Barbera. After rain in the morning, the race started
in dry conditions but tyre choice was a problem for the riders.
Jorge Lorenzo ultimately finished 10th and Hector Barbera
11th, and although the result was disappointing both riders
gained yet more experience of the 250 class. The World Championship
now moves to China where the Fortuna Honda riders will look
to claim more points at a brand new venue.
Jorge Lorenzo (48):
-Race: 10th + 45.921.
-Championship: 8th - 16 points.
“I was very worried about falling when the circuit
was wet. For that reason my rivals opened up a big advantage
at the start that I could not pull back. I was able to post
similar lap times to the leaders after that and even had some
of the quickest laps of the race. You have to be positiv,
though, and I’m feeling more like a 250 rider with every
race and am picking up experience.”
Héctor Barberá (80):
-Race: 11th + 51.533.
-Championship: 7th - 16 points.
“My result today was a consequence of the difficult
conditions that made it hard from the first lap to the last.
The positive thing was that the bike worked perfectly and
the team was excellent, but I just couldn’t get to the
high level we required. This race is gone now and we have
to think about the next one and motivate myself to keep learning
– even from days like today.”
Carrera: 4.182 m. x 26 vueltas.
Record Lap: Toni Elías, 04’ (1.41.956)
Pole 2005: R. de Puniet (1.41.104)
