FERRARI AND AF CORSE MOTOROLA 2007 FIA GT2 CHAMPIONS
Ferrari has taken the 2007 FIA GT2 constructors’ title
ahead of the end of the season, while AF Corse Motorola has
secured the team title.
The Ferrari F430 GT cars run by Amato Ferrari’s team
took their fourth one-two finish of the season with the crew
of Dirk Muller-Toni Vilander first past the chequered flag
ahead of teammates Bruni-Ortelli.
For the record, the GT1 class which did not feature any Maranello
built cars, was won by the Maserati of Montanari-Ramos ahead
of the Aston Martin ofWendlinger-Sharp and the Corvette of
Kumpen-Longin.
In GT2, Ferrari’s constructors’ title was also
the result of other teams who ran a further three Ferrari
F430 GTs developed by the Corse Clienti department, which
together filled the top five places in the classification.
Leading the GT2 drivers table are Muller-Vilander on 63 points,
second are Ortelli-Bruni with 52, followed by Collard-Malucelli
on 50.
With two races remaining and 20 points to play for, AF Corse
Motorola is thus also closing on the drivers’ crown.
The next round takes place over the weekend of 30 September
at Nogaro in France.
“Great, great, great,” commented Dirk
Muller. “The best car I have ever driven, simply
fantastic.”
Toni Vilander adds. “This takes our
number of wins to five this season. With this car, this team
and these Michelins, we were unbeatable today.”
Gianmaria Bruni: “I am happy with
this second place and especially for contributing today’s
points to winning the team and constructors’ championship.”
Stephane Ortelli: “It was good to
finish second and thus get ahead of Collard-Malucelli in the
drivers’ classification. Now we hope to continue in
the same vein in the next two races.”
