THIRD ONE TWO OF THE SEASON FOR THE AF CORSE MOTOROLA FERRARI
Yesterday evening at the Italian Adria circuit, the AF Corse
Motorola team got back to its winning ways in the seventh
round of the FIA GT Championship in the GT2 class. Dirk Muller
and Toni Vilander crossed the finish line ahead of team-mates
Gianmaria Bruni and Stephane Ortelli thanks to a spectacular
climb through the field, thus consolidating the lead in the
Drivers’ championship. For the record, the GT1 class
saw victory go to the Aston Martin of Wendlinger/Sharp ahead
of the Maserati of Bertolini/Piccini and the Aston Martin
of Babini/Davis.
The Ferrari F430 GT developed by the Corse Clienti department
of Maranello thus took its sixth win of the season, with another
demonstration of its superiority.
Muller: “It’s great to be winning
again. The car, the Michelin tyres and the whole team were
perfect. There are three races to go and we remain totally
concentrated.”
Vilander: “I am happy with our fourth
race of the season and if we make no mistakes we can win the
championship no problem.”
Ortelli:”On Saturday the cars went
very well, but on such a tight track it is very easy to lose
time in traffic. It was really fun driving in the dark with
the track lit up with spotlights.”
Bruni: “The race went well. I am very
happy for the team because we have taken important points
and now all we have to do is win.”
AF Corse Motorola leads the team classification with 97 points
and is close to taking the title. The duo of Muller/Vilander
on 53 points leads the drivers classification, ahead of Malucelli/Collard
on 47 and Bruni/Ortelli on 44.
The next round takes place on 23 September at the Brno circuit
(Czech Republic.)
