GT2 Pole position in China for Ferrari with AF Corse
An
all-Ferrari front row in the GT2 class in the opening round
of the FIA GT championship at China’s Zhuhai circuit.
The F430 GT of the Italian AF Corse team, developed by the
Corse Clienti department of Maranello took pole position in
the hands of Dirk Muller and second place with Gianmaria Bruni.
After free practice in the morning, on a track that was wet
at first before turning to just damp, was spent working on
finding the best set-up for tomorrow’s race, both cars
proved they were also quick in qualifying, held in the dry.
“I am really pleased with this performance,”
commented head of AF Corse, Amato Ferrari. “It’s
great to start the season with a double. I am confident for
tomorrow given the way the cars performed in race trim, with
the Michelin tyres being quick and consistent. The whole team
did a great job and a special thanks goes to the drivers.”
Dirk Muller, who shares the number 50 car with Toni Vilander,
added: “It is my debut in the FIA GT series and to start
off with a pole is marvellous! I am also more than happy with
the work done with Toni in free practice aimed at the race.”
It is also Gianmaria Bruni’s maiden appearance in the
category: “ A good result, given that I had never raced
before in a closed wheel car. It is good that I can always
count on the extensive GT experience of Stephane Ortelli,
with whom I am taking turns at the wheel.”
