THE AF CORSE MOTOROLA TEAM FERRARIS AT SPA FOR THE 24 HOURS
This weekend, the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium hosts
the 24 Hour race that is the sixth round of the 2007 FIA GT
Championship. The Ferrari F430 GT cars of the AF Corse Motorola
team, who have won every round held so far this season in
the GT2 class, are among the favourites for victory yet again,
even at the difficult Ardennes track.
The crew of car 50, made up of Dirk Mueller and Toni Vilander,
leaders of the drivers’ classification, are joined on
this occasion by Mika Salo, who was already a winner at Spa
last year, also at the wheel of an F430 GT entered by Amato
Ferrari’s team.
The 51 car sees the arrival of Rui Aguas, who was originally
entered in the other car. He will team up with Gianmaria Bruni
and Stephane Ortelli, replacing Jaime Melo who is unable to
come to Spa because of an unexpected illness.
Amato Ferrari: “We are ready to tackle this marathon
knowing that it will be vital to make it to the flag. We hope
to repeat last year’s result when we got both cars home
in the top two places in the category.”
This is a very important event in terms of the championship,
as points are also awarded depending on the order at the sixth
and twelfth hours of the race.
There are two free practice sessions on Thursday morning,
followed by two qualifying sessions at night. A further free
practice on Friday and then the long race gets underway at
16h00 on Saturday.
The weather forecast is very unpredictable for the weekend,
with a high chance of rain both on Saturday and Sunday.
