Ferrari Challenge in action at Mugello this weekend
This
weekend, the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello (Florence)
hosts the fourth round of the Italian Ferrari Challenge Pirelli
Trophy. The 2006 series features the new F430 car and is run
over six events, before drawing to a close at the Ferrari
World Finals, at Monza from 25 to 29 October, when Scuderia
Ferrari Marlboro will take to the track for its traditional
end of season salute to its fans.
At Mugello, all of Saturday is given over to practice, from
8.50 almost continuously to 17.20, for Sunday’s endurance
race, which starts at 10.15. The format for the races provides
for an obligatory pit stop, which adds to the spectacle and
excitement in the pit lane.
In the Pirelli Trophy, Andrea Belluzzi (Motor,) on form after
the doing the double at Misano Adriatico and victory in race-1
at Vallelunga, arrives once again as leader of the classification,
with Vito Postiglione (Stile F) and Giuseppe Cirò (Motor/Malucelli)
in second and third places respectively.
First place in the Shell Cup for gentlemen drivers is still
in the hands of Cristian Francescon (Forza Service), ahead
of the crew of Sauto/Prinoth (Ineco) and Massimo Mantovani
(Stile F.)
Lorenzo Bontempelli (Rossocorsa) still has a solid lead in
the separate class for the 360 Modena cars, eligible for one
final year in the Prancing Horse one-make series. Alongside
the Challenge, the Tuscan track is also the venue for the
Italian Gran Turismo championship, which features the Ferrari
575 GTC and the F430 GTC. Members of the Scuderia Ferrari
Club can attend the Mugello event at reduced prices, with
the added opportunity for some of them to do demonstration
laps of the track.
