DTM to race in Barcelona in the next three years as well
Nürnberg. The Circuit de Catalunya, the race track near
the Spanish city of Barcelona, will be hosting a season round
of the DTM in the next three years as well. That was announced
by the ITR e.V., rights holder and marketing organisation
of the DTM, during a press conference at the Norisring in
Nuremberg on Saturday. “We are proud to be able to present
one of the world’s best touring car race series in Spain
in the future as well”, said Ramón Paderas, managing
director of the Circuit de Catalunya: “After the events
of Formula 1 and the MotoGP series, the DTM is the most important
event at our circuit.”
ITR chairman Hans Werner Aufrecht also showed himself very
happy with the extension of the contract: “The DTM events
in the past two years in Spain have been a great success.
It is all the more enjoyable for us to extend our partnership
here for the long term.” The premiere of the DTM in
Spain in 2006 attracted 42,000 spectators. This was the most
successful premiere of a foreign race series at the Circuit
de Catalunya.
The current calendar of the DTM includes eleven races. With
races in Italy, the Netherlands, Great Britain, France and
Spain, the most popular international touring car series is
presenting itself, next to Germany, in the key markets of
the automotive industry.
