100,000 fried sausages for the DTM Launch in Düsseldorf
The official DTM Season Launch held on 6th April on Düsseldorf’s
Königsallee does not only represent a motor-racing highlight
alone. At the same time, the season launch of the most popular
international touring-car series also represents a true logistic
tour de force for all those involved. On Saturday, 5th April,
when arriving in Düsseldorf for the erection of the launch
facilities, the teams already have won their first ‘race’
of the season. In the week prior to the launch, from Monday
to Wednesday, they are testing for three days at Oschersleben
and only on Wednesday evening, they will hit the road for
Düsseldorf. There, the DTM Launch visitors will have
the chance of admiring ten DTM cars and two team trucks. Also
on site: the two Audi and Mercedes-Benz safety-cars as well
as six cars of the DTM partner series.
Safety enjoys top priority in DTM, hence, the DTM organisation,
ITR e.V., has developed – in close co-operation with
the city authorities and the German Motorsport Association
(DMSB) – a comprehensive safety concept also incorporating
the experiences gathered in the previous years. Altogether,
about 250 steel crash-barriers will be erected over a total
length of 1,500 metres. Furthermore, there will be another
200 metres of concrete crash barriers and 2.5 kilometres of
safety fences. The security forces in action around the circuit
have got some 200 staff members and will make for a flawless
course of the event.
At the same time, a 160-member catering staff working in
18 snack stands will provide the visitors’ sustenance.
They will have available 100,000 fried sausages, 80,000 rolls,
20,000 steaks and cutlets, 15,000 meatballs, 8,000 meat skewers
and about three tons of special dishes, for the visitors.
15 refrigerator trucks and six refrigerator containers make
sure that everything will be fresh when served.
The pictures of the DTM Launch will be broadcasted in 175
countries all around the world. Wige Media AG produces the
TV pictures for DTM and uses a total of twelve live cameras,
two camera cranes and one helicopter to provide the world
with the best possible launch pictures. For this effort, some
ten kilometres of cable will be laid.
65 loudspeakers with a total output of 10,000 watt will make
for optimum sound all around the ‘Kö’. Seven
video walls will offer the visitors the chance of perfectly
witnessing the action taking place both all around the track
and on the 1,600sqm show stage. Altogether, some 14 kilometres
of electricity cable as well as 25 kilometres of sound and
video cable will be laid, for the event.
