DTM Launch Düsseldorf – the countdown is running
The final preparations are running flat out. Just another
two days, then (Sunday, 6th April), DTM is going to celebrate
its official season launch in Düsseldorf – for
the third consecutive time. From 13.00 to 18.00hrs, drivers
and cars will take centre stage on Düsseldorf’s
‘Kö’.
Seeing numerous cars of the premium manufacturers Audi and
Mercedes-Benz cruising and parking at the noble shopping mile
is anything but unusual but witnessing the 480bhp DTM racers
of the two brands making their Kö appearance represents
a true highlight. Last year, more than 180,000 spectators
came to the official season launch held in great spring weather
and this year, a similar crowd is expected to attend the event.
The DTM paddock will be erected in the Bahnstraße.
There, the crowds will have the chance getting very close
to both the DTM cars and the impressive race trucks of the
racing teams. And later on the day, the paddock will be the
venue of a lot of action: here, the DTM teams will demonstrate
their skills in pit-stop demonstrations. The best location
for witnessing the popular ‘donuts’ will be the
crossing Königsallee / Grünstraße where a
specially erected roundabout will offer the drivers the chance
of taking their cars to the very grip limit – what they
will have to do to perform the spectacular power-slides.
On the show stage, erected at the ‘Graf-Adolfs-Platz’,
ARD presenter Claus Lufen and Oliver Pocher will host the
programme from 13.00 to 18.00hrs. Some of the show highlights
will be the appearances of the German band ‘Revolverheld’
and Jennifer Paige, from 14.45hrs. The seven huge video screens,
erected at different points along the ‘Kö’,
will offer the crowds the chance of watching all the on-track
and on-stage action, no matter where they are standing.
Autograph hunters also will get their money’s worth,
in the season launch, as the drivers will lap the circuit
walking to sign as many autographs as possible.
