Formula 3 Euro Series debut at Nogaro

Track length: 3.636 kilometres
Lap record: 1:20.45 min / Renaud Derlot 2002
Distance: 30 laps
Winners 2006: Not yet contested

On the last weekend of September, the Formula 3 Euro Series is going to celebrate a premiere: for the first time in the history of the planet’s most competitive young-gun series, it is going to hold an event at the circuit of Nogaro. Just as Mugello, Nogaro is one of the two circuits the Formula 3 Euro series drivers are racing on for the very first time, this year. And the battle for the title – between Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3) and Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport) – enters its next round, at the circuit located in Southern France. With four more races to go, the two young guns are separated by just five points, in the championship standings.

Buemi and Grosjean are the two dominating drivers of the 2007 Formula 3 Euro Series season and are both contesting their second season on the grid of the world’s most competitive young-gun series. 21-year old Frenchman Grosjean who resides in Geneva, Switzerland, secured nine podium finishes in the 16 races contested to date, with five of these podium finishes having been race wins. At the same time, his one year younger rival succeeded in celebrating even eleven podium finishes but had to make do with just one victory, to date.

The lead in the rookie rankings is also held by a French driver. Franck Mailleux (Manor Motorsport) holds an eight-point lead over Italy’s Edoardo Mortara (Signature-Plus), with the latter being the only rookie on the 2007 Formula 3 Euro Series grid who succeeded in winning two races.

Nogaro’s Circuit Paul Armagnac is the fourth French circuit in the series’ history to host a Formula 3 Euro Series event, thus following the footsteps of Pau, Le Mans and Magny-Cours.

Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3): “Nogaro is a beautiful racetrack and it provides overtaking opportunities. You have to go particularly easy on the tyres, there, as the tarmac is rather abrasive. For me, it is particularly nice to have the chance of contesting a second home event, following the one held at Magny-Cours. It’s my goal to clinch the pole position and a race win. I want to add as many points as possible to my tally, at Nogaro.”

The Formula 3 Euro Series is covered live or re-live in 17 countries. Furthermore, Formula 3 Euro Series race résumés are broadcasted in numerous countries.
