Nico Hülkenberg fastest qualifier for the second time

Track temperature: 24.8 ºC
Air temperature: 24.1 ºC

Nico Hülkenberg (ASM Formule 3, 1:06.599 min) was fastest in qualifying of the Formula 3 Euro Series at the 2.977 kilometres long Circuit de Catalunya. The 20-year old was 0.083 seconds faster than Kamui Kobayashi (ASM Formule 3, 1:06.682 min). The two rookies Jean-Karl Vernay (Signature-Plus, 1:06.781 min) and Tom Dillmann (ASM Formule 3, 1:06.843 min) will be lining up on the second row of the grid.

Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3, 1:06.814 min), points leader in the Formula 3 Euro Series, was fourth in qualifying at the track near Barcelona. Due to an engine change, he will be dropped ten positions on the starting grid, so that his team-mate Tom Dillmann inherits his fourth grid position. Grosjean’s rival in the battle for the title, Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport, 1:07.112 min) finished eleventh in qualifying. Dutch driver Yelmer Buurman (Manor Motorsport), who had set the third fastest time, had all his times disallowed because of overtaking under red. He is still allowed to start the race from last place on the grid.

Nico Hülkenberg (ASM Formule 3): “Great, it can go on like this tomorrow. I already set my fastest time with the first set of tyres. With my second set, I didn’t find a good rhythm because of the many yellow flags.”

Kamui Kobayashi (ASM Formule 3): “I had to slow down because of yellow flags on one of my fast laps, which surely had been good enough for pole. However, my second place is also a good position for tomorrow’s race.”

Jean-Karl Vernay (Signature-Plus): “I am happy with third place on the grid. The handling of the car was good and I did a good lap. Now, a podium finish is my goal for the race.”
