Martin Tomczyk starting from pole position in Barcelona

The result of qualifying for the ninth DTM season round at the Circuit de Catalunya promises an exciting race. Martin Tomczyk (Audi), runner-up in the points’ standings, will be starting from pole position on Sunday while points leader Mattias Ekström (Audi) only qualified tenth. For Tomczyk, it is the second pole in a row and the sixth of his career in the DTM. Lining up alongside Tomczyk on thr front row of the grid will be two times’ Formula 1 world champion Mika Häkkinen (Mercedes-Benz). The Finn is heading a Mercedes-Benz quintet with title candidate Bruno Spengler, Bernd Schneider, Jamie Green and Gary Paffett. Timo Scheider (Audi) will be starting from seventh place. 13.10 hrs The first qualifying heat starts.
13.13 hrs Martin Tomczyk is the first driver to set a meaningful lap time: 1.20.029, then Bernd Schneider is first with 1.19.923.
13.14 hrs Tomczyk counters again: 1.19.351.
13.15 hrs Daniel la Rosa takes the escape road at the chicane.
13.17 hrs Halfway through the session, Tomczyk remains first with 1.19.199 from Scheider, Schneider, Spengler, Häkkinen and Green.
