Buemi vs. Grosjean: the battle continues – at Barcelona

Track length: 2.977 kilometres
Lap record: 1:01.876 min / Kohei Hirate, 2005
Distance: 38 laps
Winners 2006: Sebastian Vettel / Richard Antinucci

This weekend, the national version of Barcelona’s Grand Prix circuit will be the venue of the 2007 Formula 3 Euro Series season’s rounds 15 and 16. Following the most popular young gun series’ Barcelona debut, made in 2006, the Formula 3 Euro Series now returns to Spain for its second race weekend at the 2.949-kilometre Circuit de Catalunya. Hence, the Spanish crowds will have the chance of witnessing the next chapter of the title battle between Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3) and Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport).

The 21-year old Frenchman travels to Barcelona with a six-point lead over his rival. While Grosjean prevailed in 5 of the 14 races contested so far, his three years younger rival has secured just one race win, to date.

At the same time, Germany’s Nico Hülkenberg (ASM Formule 3) got going better and batter, in the recent weeks. In early August, Romain Grosjean’s 20-year old team-mate won the ‘Zandvoort Masters of Formula 3 @ Zolder’, the most important Formula race held on European soil. Four weeks later, he also prevailed in the 13th Formula 3 Euro Series round, held at the Nürburgring. With six more races to go, Hülkenberg now holds third position in the 2007 Formula 3 Euro Series Championship.

Having made their Formula 3 Euro Series debut in early September, at the Nürburgring, the teams RC Motorsport and AM-Holzer Rennsport, relying on the new Volkswagen Formula 3 power unit, are going to now contest their second event on the series’ grid. And the debut was a truly successful one, with Maximilian Götz (RC Motorsport), the best pf the VW drivers, finishing sixth in the engines maiden race appearance.

Dani Clos (Signature-Plus): “I’m looking forward to racing at my hometown, Barcelona. And I also feel closely associated with the Circuit de Catalunya and its staff as they have been supporting me a lot, in my career. Up to last season, they have been one of my sponsors and we still are cooperating, today. My goal for next weekend: to secure a race win. I finally want to demonstrate my skills. And my home event represents the perfect opportunity to do so.”

The Formula 3 Euro Series is covered live or re-live in 17 countries. Furthermore, Formula 3 Euro Series race résumés are broadcasted in numerous countries.
