Romain Grosjean on pole position for home race

Track temperature: 19.3 º C
Air temperature: 18.5 º C

Points leader Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3, 1.20.990 min) secured himself his third pole position of the season for his home race at the 3.636 kilometres long Circuit Paul Armagnac in Nogaro. Kamui Kobayashi (ASM Formule 3, 1.21.051 min) and Nico Hülkenberg (ASM Formule 3, 1.21.188 min) in second and third place completed the top three lock-out for ASM in qualifying for the 17th season round of the Formula 3 Euro Series. Yelmer Buurman (Manor Motorsport, 1.21.530 min) qualified fourth from the runner-up in the points’ standings, Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport, 1.21.554 min).

Qualifying was interrupted twice. Firstly, it was Filip Salaquarda (HBR Motorsport, 1.22.144 min) who came off the track and then, the same happened to Dani Clos (Signature-Plus, 1.22.305 min). Kobayashi had his eyes set on pole position until eight minutes before the end of the session. Then, Grosjean did a perfect lap that allowed him to topple his team-mate. Thus, the Frenchman secured himself another valuable point in the battle for the championship. He could already win the title at Nogaro when he scores eleven points more from the two races than his main rival Buemi.

Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3): “Qualifying was difficult, because track conditions were changing all the time. Eventually, everything went well and ASM has locked out the top three. The more cars there are between Buemi and me, the better it is.”

Kamui Kobayashi (ASM Formule 3): “Qualifying was okay. However, I didn’t manage to do a good lap with my second set of tyres. Before we got these on, we changed something on the set-up. But that obviously was into the wrong direction.”

Nico Hülkenberg (ASM Formule 3): “Today, it was difficult as my car wasn’t perfect. Still, pole position would have been within reach. But that doesn’t count. For tomorrow’s race, it is maximum attack and scoring as many points as possible.”
