Runner-up Buemi claims victory in final season round

Track temperature: 17.9 º C
Air temperature: 15.1 º C

With his third victory of the season, runner-up Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport) bows out of the Formula 3 Euro Series. At the 4.574 kilometres long Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg, the 18-year old Swiss won from Edoardo Mortara (Signature-Plus). For the Italian, second place was enough to win the rookie title in the world’s toughest junior race series. Newly-crowned champion Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3) finished third in the 20th season round and the 100th race in history of the Formula 3 Euro Series.

Mortara took the lead on the opening lap and retained this position until the 23rd lap. At the hairpin, he failed to hold off an attack from Buemi and dropped back behind the Mücke driver. He retained this position until the chequered flag came out. Thus, the Italian, who is living in Geneva, scored four podium finishes in his maiden season in Formula 3, more than any other rookie.

Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport): “It was a good start and I quickly moved up into second. Eventually, I was able to overtake Edoardo Mortara for the lead. For me, the race wasn’t easy as I had lost my right rear-view mirror. Ending the season with a race win is always nice.”

Edoardo Mortara (Signature-Plus): “This race was really hard. Unfortunately, I had some problems with the tyres on the last couple of laps. That is why Sébastien Buemi was able to overtake me. I ended the season as the best-placed rookie. Of course, I am very happy with that.”

Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3): “I had a good start and third place in my final race in the Formula 3 Euro Series is okay for me. I am happy that I already secured myself the title yesterday. As a result, I didn’t have to risk everything today and I settled for a safe finish.”
