Fourth season pole position for Romain Grosjean

Track temperature: 19.3 º C
Air temperature: 14.7 º C

Frenchman Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3, 1.32.805 min) claimed pole position for the 19th season round of the Formula 3 Euro Series. At the 4,574 kilometres long Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg, he was 0.178 seconds faster than his team-mate Nico Hülkenberg (1.32.983 min). Third place was occupied by Dutchman Yelmer Buurman (Manor Motorsport, 1.33.244 min). With his fourth best qualifying time of the year, 21-year old Grosjean claimed another point in the battle for the title. Now, he is eight points clear of his only remaining rival, Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport, 1.33.359 min) from Switzerland.

In qualifying, Buemi didn’t do any better than fifth place behind Kamui Kobayashi (ASM Formule 3, 1.33.314 min). Best-placed rookie was Edoardo Mortara (Signature-Plus, 1.33.524 min) in seventh place. Franck Mailleux (Manor Motorsport, 1.33.756 min), his fiercest rival in the battle for the title of the best novice, qualified tenth.
Carlo van Dam (R.C. Motorsport, 1.34.531 min) was 20th after his maiden qualifying in the world’s toughest junior race series.

Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3): “In qualifying, my car was incredibly good. I wanted this pole position and I gave everything to get it. It was particularly important because of the bonus point that is being awarded for the fastest qualifying time. It is good that I am having a team-mate behind me with Nico Hülkenberg and that my main rival, Sébastien Buemi, is only fifth.”

Nico Hülkenberg (ASM Formule 3): “I am disappointed with second place, because it is never nice when you are beaten. I was at the limit and my fastest lap was all right. Still, it wasn’t enough.”

Yelmer Buurman (Manor Motorsport): “With my first set of tyres, it didn’t go that well. After that, we made some slight changes to the car and it went better. I am happy with third place, it is a good position to be in for the race.”
