At the 2.3 kilometres long Norisring in Nuremberg, Nico Hülkenberg
(ASM Formule 3) scored his maiden victory in the Formula 3
Euro Series. In a turbulent race, the protégé
of manager Willi Weber showed a great recovery, making it
all the way from 18th place on the starting grid into the
lead. Second place went to Sébastien Buemi (Mücke
Motorsport) from Tom Dillmann (ASM Formule 3). For 18-year
old rookie driver Dillman, it was the first podium finish
in the world’s toughest junior racing series.
Hülkenberg benefited from an accident in the early stages
of the race and was already tenth after two laps. Another
five laps later, he had moved up into sixth. On the 23rd of
46 laps, the driver from Emmerich overtook Yelmer Buurman
(Manor Motorsport) who had been in the lead from the start
and immediately pulled clear. After that, his maiden victory
in the Formula 3 Euro Series was never in any danger.
Sébastien Buemi extended his points lead in the Formula
3 Euro Series by finishing second. Now, he is six points clear
of Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3). The Frenchman retired
following an accident in the opening stages of the race.
Nico Hülkenberg (ASM Formule 3): “This
is my first victory in the Formula 3 Euro Series and I am
very happy with it. Today, I also benefited from accidents
happening ahead of me. After my retirement form yesterday,
I was quite angry, but I managed to turn my anger into speed
and today, I got the reward.”
Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport):
“For me, it was a difficult race. I managed to overtake
a few drivers and I was quick, but not quick enough for Nico
Hülkenberg.”
Tom Dillmann (ASM Formule 3): “Following
my severe accident prior to the season, in which I broke my
sternum, I am really happy to be on the podium in my fourth
race.”
